"Is there a pattern here?". . .A thought of a squad leader in India/3/4. . .

In early 1965, an ARVN officer came to tell us what they had experience and what to watch out for.
I saw a look in some of the faces of fellow members of my infantry battalion.
What can these 'losers' taught by other 'losers' teach us?
It's sad to say, what he was trying to tell us, we had to learn the hard way.
American Hubris. . .
Ricardo has copied & pasted the text below;
A century of unwise American military adventures is probed in this perceptive study of foreign policy over-reach. Daily Beast and Time contributor Beinart (The Good Fight) highlights three examples of Washington's overconfidence: Woodrow Wilson's hubris of reason: the belief that reason, not force, could govern the world; the Kennedy-Johnson administrations' hubris of toughness during the Vietnam War; and George W. Bush's hubris of dominance in launching the Iraq War. In each case, Beinart finds a dangerous confluence of misleading experience and untethered ideology; the Iraq War, he contends, was fostered both by a 12-year string of easy military triumphs from Panama to Afghanistan, and a belief that America can impose democracy by force.
In LBJ case; 'my boys can't bomb an 'outhouse' without my permission.
Sad to say, there are no 'outhouses' in Vietnam.
The Vietnamese dig a deep hole, they than lay bamboo in one direction leaving an open in the middle.
Than they lay bamboo cross-wise, again leaving an opening in the middle to form a square opening.
Where they do their 'business' till its full.
Than they make another 'crapper hole'.

They appear or look like this one of concrete.
What I was trying to say, LBJ had no idea of what he was fighting, he thought the Vietnames would crumble after all our bombing.
He didn't figure on the soviets and chinese arming the Vietnamese.

Not this tide.
Not this tide.
Not this tide.
None this tide,
Nor any tide,
